I really, really wasn’t looking forward to writing this blog, which is the reason that it has taken so long for me to get to it. This team had what it took to make a Final Four, the match ups were there for them to make a serious run to the title game and then you get in a one game scenario with UNC…from there who knows what can happen. But this is what makes sports so amazing. It can be so elating and so gut wrenching all within the span of minutes. Showy gives us maybe the most memorable moment in the history of Wisconsin sports one second….
And then Chris Chiozza is ripping our hearts to shreds shortly thereafter. Makes me want to puke just thinking about it so we’re going to try and move on the best we can by looking back at what this senior class all accomplished.
- 115-35 record overall
- 14-4 record in the NCAA Tournament including 4 straight Sweet 16’s
- 2 Final Fours
- 1 National Runner up
- Nigel leaves as the 3rd all-time leading scorer in UW History
- Bronson leaves as UW’s leader in 3 pointer FG’s made
This group of individuals took the Badger’s basketball to entirely new heights that maybe people never believed could be possible. Let’s be honest before this group came through, we all hung our hats on making the tournament and hoping to make it to the Final Four one day. This group accomplished all of that and more as Wisconsin has gone from a Good program to an Elite program that is going to be competing for Final Fours year over year. They are now a program in the mix and getting the top players in the country (see 2017 Recruiting class and Tyler Herro). This is a special era in Wisconsin Basketball and the best may be yet to come, but we wouldn’t be naive to think this may be the best group of seniors we will ever see, and it should be appreciated as such.
Showy, Bronson, Nigel and Vitto are leaving Madison and the Badger’s Basketball program a better place than when they arrived, which is something that we all should strive for no matter what your profession. One day these guys will realize that what they did was very special and something that not many get to accomplish.
As a fan of this team and this program; Thanks for the Memories.
