Holy Smokes! Our Milwaukee Bucks have an NBA All-Star on their team. Not only an All-Star… but an All-Star Starter.
Giannis Antetokounmpo or “The Greek Freak” is the first Buck to make the All-Star game since Michael Redd in the 2003-2004 Season. Giannis was drafted by the Bucks in 2013 where he was the 15th overall pick. Now if you were anything like me, you were a bit concerned about drafting the 18 year old skinny kid out of Greece. Foreign draft picks have not been too kind to the Bucks in the past. In 2003, the Bucks drafted the Polish Powerhouse Symon Szewczk. He lasted less than a year and is now playing “professionally” in Poland. In 2005, they drafted Ersan Ilyasova. Not a bad draft pick, but also not quite the savior we were looking for. 2007, the Bucks drafted the infamous Yi Jianlian. He played with the Bucks for a year and then bounced from team to team until 2012 when he decided to go to Guangdong Southern Tigers in China. Just a laughable draft pick by the Bucks. Lastly, 2009 came around and they drafted Brandon Jennings or “Mr. 55” from the Italian Club Pallacenestro Virtus Roma. The only good thing he brought to the Bucks franchise was the Unprecedented phrase “BucksIn6. He is now playing for the New York Knicks (shout out to Charles Oakley). 2013 rolls around and we take yet another risk. This is what us loyal fans have been waiting patiently for. Giannis came into our lives and has not disappointed. Before I jump into the Greek Freak himself, I want to recognize that the Bucks may have struck gold with Giannis, but have not learned their lesson with international draft picks. In 2014, the Bucks continue to depress their fans with the draft of Damien Inglis, and if he can last long enough in the D-League, we may see his second to none talents in Oshkosh before we know it.
Now let’s switch gears and think a bit more positively now. Giannis is in New Orleans as we speak. He has been doing interviews with ESPN, showing people how big his hands are and probably some other weird Greek Shit that he does. He heads into the All-Star game leading the Bucks in every single major category. He is averaging 23.4 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 5.5 APG, 1.8 SPG and 2.0 BPG. The guy is 22 years old! Let’s just take a moment and break down how ridiculous that is… To be completely honest with you, I can’t remember the last time I saw one person lead their team in all of these categories, let alone at the age of 22.
With Giannis, we have the core guy to build the team around for years to come. It does not help that we can’t seem to figure out how to get Giannis, Jabari and Kid Middleton on the court at the same time, but if we do get to that point, I truly believe that this team will be a force to be reckoned with. So let’s cross our fingers and hope that Jabari doesn’t go through what D-Rose went through and become a bum (again, shout out to Charles Oackley and the Knicks organization).
Congratulations on the All-Star game Giannis,
